Your website is only in english?

Why have a page with two or more languages? There are many ways to do it, but what is the right way?

Most of the time, the web developers end up doing an incorrect translation that end up doing the page that translates as Google Translate or the fact of creating a domain as follows like domain.com/entry.html in English and domain.com/entry-espanol.html for Spanish is one of the worst mistakes a company can make. It must be remembered that translation instantly is not a multilingual site.

What is the correct way to assemble / display a page in multiple languages?

We can work in two ways and with folders or subdomains. Working with folders has many benefits:

The first is with the backing that attracts the folders to help the domain, and the authority of the domain and the one that can maintain the domain for better keywords.

The second is because all the traffic that ends up in the folders is also useful for all Google signals in that domain.

An important tip for a page of an online store and use folders, not only put names to the folders like ENG, ESP, FR refering to the languages if not put in Spanish TIENDA, in English STORE, in French BOUTIQUE or whatever, why? because we will be putting a more keyword in the URL, put ENG will not help us anything so we better put STORE and maybe someone looks for example “Computer store” and you will already have been ahead since STORE will appear in the URL.

If you instead make Subdomains instead of folders all those lines and those links remain the domain.

If you use domains for each language, with English being the most spoken language in the world, the .com is always better in English and .mx or .es in Spanish if the page is from Mexico or Spain.

If you put your domain for example English for www.domain.com and for Spanish www.domain.com/en/ is not so recommendable as it has more disadvantages than advantages, it is better to make subdomains for each language from the moment you you are thinking about making your site multilingual.

For example, if you realize Google redirects the domain by country, either:

  • United States – https://www.google.com
  • England – https://www.google.co.uk/
  • Mexico – https://www.google.com.mx/
  • Argentina – https://www.google.com.ar/

As it is a more practical and correct way to make a multi-regional or multilingual website.
